|DAVID FRYKMAN COLLECTIBLES|
David Frykman's first true carving experience was in the winter of 1992-93 when he was invited to participate in local ice-carving competitions. This delightful experience provided David the opportunity to explore a whole new direction as a sculptor. Currently, David’s medium of choice is eastern white cedar, though he will still sneak off to the occasional ice competition! Cedar, which grows in abundance in Door County, is a knotty and brittle wood that frustrates many traditional carvers. However, David finds that it carves particularly well with wood-adapted ice-carving tools. David Frykman Collectibles include wonderful carvings of firefighters, patrolmen, golfers, cows, pigs, hunters, fishermen, occupational collectibles for both Everyday and Christmas.
|AMERICAN CHESTNUT FOLK ART|
In the rolling hill country of Pennsylvania, award winning artists Pete and Diane Bretz give new life to the wood of the American chestnut tree*. Inspired by the style of traditional American folk art from the past, Pete & Diane create these wonderful characters that are sure to excite any collector. Pete and Diane recycle antiquated American chestnut wood originally used in the construction of homes and barns. The antique wood is versatile, straight grained, lighter than oak, and is very resistant to decay. Each piece of wood is carefully selected to bring out the unique qualities of the American chestnut wood grain. Together, they create original wood sculptures which become the master molds for the amazingly detailed, hand painted resin figures. The American Chestnut Folk Art collection includes a complete line of everyday, americana and Christmas folk art collectibles including bears, turtles, snowmen, rabbits, pull toys and lots more.
